Your New Role…

The Writer/Producer is responsible for writing scripts, planning segments and producing CNNI’s Newsroom show, broadcast at 1pm GMT on weekdays. The Writer/Producer takes editorial guidance from the anchor and producers based in London and Atlanta. When producing, they determine the rundown, react to late breaking news, and are in the control room as programmes go to air.

Your Role Accountabilities…

  • When producing, responsible for all aspects of the show, taking the programme to air from the control room in a live, breaking news environment

  • Requires robust editorial judgement in planning news shows and breaking news, as well as the ability to demonstrate their experience covering and editorially shaping segments on difficult, sensitive and controversial topics

  • In the run-up to the show, ensures all scripts are written, all graphics have been ordered and completed and all video material is in place and ready to air

  • The Writer/Producer must know and understand all of the daily stories and what treatments the stories deserve for the show. To that end, the Writer/Producer spends a large part of the shift studying wires and interacting with the assignment desk, supervisors and the show team to determine just how CNNI will be covering and presenting stories each day

  • Demonstrates imagination and creativity when packaging news and making segments

  • Write elements of the show, most often the show open, teases and set-ups for special segments

  • Oversees the control room staff who get the show on air based on the rundown.

  • Gives feedback to the guest booking team on show guests and also give ideas and some guidance on guests requested for future shows.

  • Contributes to the digital strategy of the show and come up with ideas for coverage storytelling on-air and online

  • As the show airs at 1pm, start time for this role is 7am Monday – Friday

Qualifications and Experience…

  • Thorough knowledge of international news and s ubstantial experience in broadcast journalism

  • Good knowledge of television production with C ontrol Room experience outputting newscasts

  • Robust editorial knowledge and demonstrated news writing experience

  • Languages other than English, especially regional languages, are an advantage

  • Specialty knowledge of an industry, subject matter or region of the world is advantageous.

Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
