General Summary:

The New Zealand Product and Data Team are responsible for:

  • Managing the consumer and advertiser product experience for our ad supported digital video product ThreeNow.

  • End-to-end digital data collection, management and activation across commercial, marketing, content and product teams.

  • Delivering actionable and accessible insights about WBD NZ’s products, content and consumers to enable data-lead decision making that drives profitable growth in audience and revenue.

Reporting to the Data Delivery Manager, the Senior Data Engineer is a role designed to support the development and maintenance of a robust, accurate and dynamic data asset for business usage across commercial, product, content and marketing teams.

Role Summary:

Reporting to the Data Delivery Manager, we are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our team at WBD NZ. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the integration of internal and external data sources into our data lake, exposing data to third-party systems, and maintaining the integrity of our data hub/spokes architecture. Your responsibilities will also include ensuring data quality thorough testing and test writing to minimize disruptions for data lake users. Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate internal and external data sources into our data lake, ensuring data availability and accessibility.

  • Third-Party Integration: Expose sets of data from our data lake to third-party systems, enabling seamless data exchange and integration.

  • Data Lake Maintenance: Safeguard the integrity and performance of our data hub/spokes architecture, implementing best practices for data storage and retrieval.

  • Data Quality Assurance: Take ownership of data quality by conducting comprehensive testing, writing tests, and ensuring that changes to data lake tables do not disrupt users' access to critical data.

  • Technology Expertise: Utilize your expertise in JAVA, Maven, Spark, SQL (Athena/Presto), and AWS technologies, including Data Pipelines, Lambda, S3, and Athena, to drive efficient data engineering solutions.

Qualities Required:

  • Technical Agility: Comfortably navigate between various technologies and tools, including JAVA, Maven, Spark, SQL, and AWS, to address data engineering challenges effectively.

  • Data Analysis: Possess a clear understanding of data collection methods, data pipelines, and data quality standards, enabling you to explain data intricacies to stakeholders.

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience in JAVA, Maven, Spark, SQL (Athena/Presto), and AWS technologies.

  • Data Engineering: Proven track record in data engineering, including data integration, data exposure, and data quality assurance.

  • Agile Collaboration: Experience working in agile teams is a plus, as you may be involved in creating user stories for tracking new features.

  • Familiarity with SQL (basic level), AWS (user level), and Power BI would be advantageous.
